NEGOTIATIONS UPDATE: -
Our Negotiating Team met with the Administration's team on November 16th for a half-day's discussion of proposals. Our next meeting is scheduled for a full day on November 28th.
SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY: -
The Union Plus Scholarship is available to all AFT members. The children of 10 AFT families will be selected to receive scholarship awards from $500 to $3000. Applications for the 2007 Union Plus Scholarship program are now available. The deadline for the 2007 awards is January 31, 2007. To obtain more information and to download an application visit: http://www.unionplus.org/benefits/education/scholarships/up.cfm. The application is an Adobe Acrobat PDF file.
AFT QuEST PRESENTATION PROPOSALS: -
Lois Lofton Doniver, Secretary-Treasurer of AFT Michigan, is soliciting presentation proposals and/or suggestions for topics members would like to see at AFT Michigan's spring QuEST conference. You can e-mail suggestions and/or proposals to ldoniver@AFTMichigan.org.
Documentation of classes taken for re-certification must be received by Central no later than June 30th in the year your certificate expires. The state Board of Education is currently deliberating whether or not this expiration date should be changed to December 31st of the year in which it expires.
EDFT SCHOLARSHIP REQUESTS: -
Members should have received an end-of-the-year direct appeal from John DiDonato, Chairperson of our EDFT Scholarship Fund. Please consider sending your totally tax-deductible donation to the Eastpointe Community Credit Union in care of Cindy Colson. The deadline for donations is December 31st.
CLASSES AVAILABLE: -
Building reps should have posted a listing of PA 118 Reading Courses available throughout the state. Please check your Union bulletin board. The AFT Michigan still has space in the following classes: Leadership Development - Jan. 18, 25 & Feb. 1 and Designing Classroom Newsletters: Communication Strategies - Jan. 23 & 30. Both classes are held at the AFT Michigan Detroit office on Jefferson Avenue.

A special thank you goes to Jim Micallef (High School). He was the only EDFT member who volunteered to participate in the AFT door-to-door walk for candidates.
