The Union leadership would like to extend their support to those members facing layoff or displacement. Twenty-six of our members have received a layoff notice this year. An additional seven members remain on layoff from last year. The Union's hope is to see every member on layoff recalled to a full time job.
Members who have received layoff notification and would like to obtain unemployment compensation information should e-mail or call the Union office (4699). A packet of information will be sent to you via school mail.
GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING:
The EDFT will hold a General Membership Meeting on Thursday, April 19th in Oakwood Middle School's Media Center beginning at 4:00 p.m. Members have had the opportunity to view the entire draft of the revised Constitution on line at our website since April 4, 2007. Copies of the changes have also been posted on buildings' bulletin boards. A vote to approve the revisions will take place at this meeting.
If the revisions are approved to include the new officer hierarchy, nominations for all elected officer positions will be taken from the floor. A person who is nominated orally at the General Membership meeting must be present at the time to accept the nomination.
Members may submit written nominations from April 20-30. A written nomination must bear the signature of the candidate.
A list of candidates will be e-mailed to members on May 1st and posted on the Union's bulletin boards.

The Union Office has received notification from only one member who intends to retire this year. As a result, the Executive Council has decided to cancel this year's Retirement Party. Any member who retires at the end of this school year (or over the summer) will be honored at next year's Retirement Party.
Many thanks and appreciation to our Audit Committee. Chairperson Wanda Mazur and members Carol Huly and Debra Score performed a commendable job in preparing the annual audit reports required by the national AFT. The committee's report was presented at the March Executive Council. Two recommendations made by the committee will be incorporated during our current fiscal year.
Grievance 2007-01 and -02: Per our agreement with Supt. Kefgen, resolution was achieved through the committee process. See next item. All letters of reprimand have been removed from our members' files.
Grievance 2007-03: The superintendent agreed that our members have every right to expect that the conditions under which they work are reasonable. He further stated that he expects building principals to ensure that work spaces are adequately heated and to make whatever adjustments are warranted.
EDFT would like to thank Cathy West, Lincoln Stocks and Laurie Hillebrand who served on this committee along with Dr. Lois Johnson, Ira Hamden and Paul Szymanski. A copy of the final document, which has been signed by Superintendent Kefgen and President Knill, is on the back of this newsletter.
The Union has submitted a letter to Administration requesting that negotiations for next year commence. The Board of Education has yet to act upon our request.
